Archived Lake Reports for August 2005

North Lake adult only non-members*

03/08 2005

North Lake has now produced 36 fish over 30lb to 36lb 6oz this year already and looks set to continue in fine form. Lots of sport coming from all over the lake. A little thought about your presentation goes a long way, the method continues to produce good bags but something a bit different is required to bank the big fish.

Well done to Garry Willis, who on a recent 24hr session managed over 30 doubles with 8 fish over 20lb, not a bad session at all. Still plenty of Catfish coming out with 3 fish over 40lb in the last week alone.

* Minimum tackle requirements: 40” net, 40” unhooking mat, 2.5lb T.C rods and 10lb line per angler, no sharing allowed. Pre-booking 2–3 weeks in advance for 24 hour plus weekend sessions on North Lake is advisable.

Plantation Lake*

03/08 2005

Corn and Maize remain firm favorites with pellet also producing the goods. Cast to fish that are showing and put some thought into your presentation. Lots of fish coming out in the 12 to 20lb range.

Pva bags and small hook links can do well, match the size of your hook to the bait you are using, it’s no good fishing a single grain of maize on a size 2 hook!!!

* Minimum tackle requirements are a 30” net and an un-hooking mat per angler.

Prairie Lake

03/08 2005

The method is still firm favorite and continues to produce some good bags of fish. Don’t overlook the basics as float fished maggot or worm has also put some nice fish on the bank. Don’t be shy with the ground bait or freebies as Prairie responds well to big beds of bait.

Plenty of surface sport to pellet or crust but lull the fish into a false sense of security with free offerings (4–5 at a time) before introducing your hook bait. Again pay some attention to your presentation, match your hook to the bait you are fishing, it can make all the difference.

Sandwich Lake

03/08 2005

Lots of Bream, Chubb, Roach, Rudd and Dace are coming out with natural baits working well as always. Small hooks, light hook link and plenty of ground bait (little and often) will keep interest in your swim.

There is some great Tench fishing to be had at the moment with big bags (40 plus a day) a regular occurrence. Watch the surface for big Orfe and Rudd. Matches start again in September so it’s worth phoning before a Wednesday or Sunday trip to check availability.

Kettles Lake

03/08 2005

Kettles responds to the same tactics as Prairie and as such the method is well worth considering. Bear in mind that to fish the method correctly you need plenty of method mix! We advise between 3–5kg per person, per day minimum! All baits are doing well with corn and maize being particularly good at present. Put some thought into your presentation and it will pay dividends.

Well done to Garth Smith on breaking his P.B. twice in one day, Garth finished the session with a lovely mirror of 16lb 12oz.

Pullens Lake members only

03/08 2005

The bigger fish are starting to respond to artificial bait with Danny Cooper managing an 11 fish, 48 hour session, including 3 20lb plus fish from the top to 26lb, well done Danny.

There are some truly big fish showing but at present they are preoccupied with natural food; some serious thought is required to coax them onto your bait.

West End Lake members only

03/08 2005

West End continues to produce some lovely fish to mid to high twenties. The fish are quite visual at present and will respond to being cast to.

Tiger nut boilies are still firm favorite at the moment but don’t be too shy with the freebies. Presentation still seems to be key on West End so do your homework and it should pay off.
