Archived Lake Reports for August 2006

North Lake adult only non-members*

20/08 2006

Paul Meopham showed us all how to do it right this week. During a fantastic 48 hour session Paul banked an incredible 27 fish including 21 doubles, 5 twenties and a stunning 33lb 4oz mirror. I think you will all agree that is a pretty good result! Well done to Mr Miller for his lovely 37lb mirror. Alan Goldsmith finished off a long session with several very nice fish including A 32lb ‘er, 2, 29lb mirrors (even if the Missus had to land one for you Alan!!!). Lloyd Mahoney had a cracking 37lb Mirror and Michael Blackburn finished a 6 day session with 40 carp top by mirrors of 33lb and 39lb. In total he had over 700lb of fish.

As always, spodding loads of particle continues to produce, remember to keep topping up with your spod throughout the session.

The wild card eliminator for the British Carp Angling Championships has just been held on North Lake, well done to Darren Stevens and Nick May who qualified for the finals with an impressive 447lb of Carp. Mark Bartlett and Dean Goodwill came second with a very credible 415lb. Dean also managed a Catfish of 63lb so there’s another lake record, well done Dean, shame it didnt count to your final weight or you would have walked it!

Pre-booking North Lake sessions is essential

North Lake is incredibly popular, pre-booking sessions is absolutely essential. 1–2 weeks’ notice is required for a weekday session and 4–6 weeks’ notice is required for a weekend session. Day only sessions may not be pre-booked but it is advisable to ring us the evening before to check availability. There are always last-minute cancellations so you can get lucky.

* Minimum tackle requirements: 40” net, 40” unhooking mat, 2.5lb T.C rods and 10lb line per angler, no sharing allowed. Pre-booking 2–3 weeks in advance for 24 hour plus weekend sessions on North Lake is advisable.

Plantation Lake*

20/08 2006

Several very nice fish out in the last week with the biggest, a 27lb Mirror taken over particle. Corn, maize and pellet are still good bait choices and popped up bait can work really well. Mainline Tuttis seem to always work on Plantation and we now stock them in the shop so no excuses. Cast to showing fish and keep an eye on the top.

* Minimum tackle requirements are a 30” net and an un-hooking mat per angler.

Prairie Lake

20/08 2006

Prairie is on a current run of great form and continues to produce some cracking fish to upper doubles. Mega corn is working very well at the moment so if you are struggling, give it a go. Some very nice commons to just under twenty pounds have been showing and again, corn is the favored bait but pellet is definitely worth a go. As with Plantation, if you want to fish boilies then you won’t go far wrong with Tutti-fruity they are a pretty dependable flavor and always seem to work.

Sandwich Lake

20/08 2006

Sandwich has remained very constant so far this season with very good bags being put together on a daily basis. Remember you can night fish and it is well worth the effort for the bigger Tench and Bream. Favorite baits at present are corn, pellet, worm and caster. Particles such as hemp always work well so bear that in mind. Float fishing is always productive as well as ledgering. Scale your hook length right down and concentrate on as finer presentation as you dare to fool the bigger fish.

Remember that matches start again at the end of the month so it’s worth phoning before a Sunday session to check availability.

Kettles Lake

20/08 2006

Kettles has really been fishing well and continues to produce some cracking fish to low twenties. Some good mixed bags have also been put together on the float or pole and pellet is a real favorite for this tactic. Maggot and caster always seem to work along with the flavored corns and luncheon meats. Try some new tactics, the bagging waggler can be devastating on lakes like Kettles, if you are not sure how to do it, come down to the lodge and ask.

Pullens Lake members only

20/08 2006

Pullens continues to produce quality fish to high twenties and there have been some ridiculous bags put together recently with Tony Prigg managing a 20 fish haul not once but twice, well done Tony.

West End Lake members only

20/08 2006

Same old, same old, West End is doing what West end does best: producing loads of hard fighting, large Carp. Boringly, Andy Wilson continues his sickening run of good form with another nice haul with fish to 27lb this time, so he can’t 30lb plus fish all the time which is reassuring for the rest of us.
