Archived Lake Reports for August 2007

North Lake Adult only*

25/08 2007

North Lake has really come into its own over the last few weeks. The key to this lake seems to be Spodding out plenty of bait, and don’t worry you won’t over feed them.

Biggest fish in the last 4 weeks were caught by Chris Cage: 48lb 8oz Catfish, Dave Field: 28lb Grass Carp, Karl Palmer who took the place apart with: 42lb 13oz, 34lb, 27lb x 2, 26lb x 3, 24lb all mirrors, Paul Noakes was over the moon with his 42lb 8oz Catfish, and even happier when his son banked a 57lb 8oz Cat.

Plantation Lake*

25/08 2007

Plantation is fishing very well with some cracking fish coming out. Tony Baker: 15lb Mirror, Karl Robinson: 17lb Common, Paul Menear: 21lb 12oz, 17lb, 16lb 12oz, 14lb 5oz, Danny Hitching: 19lb Common, 14lb fully scaled Mirror, Lee Brooker: 16lb, 12lb.

There really is no preferred method but you can never go far wrong with the Korda maggot clip and maggots in you ground bait. On warm sunny days it is possible to get them feeding on the surface so always have a few dog biscuits in your bags, if the fish are on the surface leave one rod on the bottom and have one on top.

* Tackle requirements are a 30” net and an un-hooking mat per angler.

Prairie Lake

25/08 2007

Prairie Lake has really been fishing well and continues to produce some cracking fish. As with Plantation, pellet can be a real favorite at this time of year. Maggot and caster always seem to work along with the flavored corns and luncheon meats.

The monster Perch are back in evidence Adrian Parson caught a 4lb 6oz specimen so sling a float fished lob worm into the margins and you never know? The key to this lake at the moment seems to be using plenty of bait don’t be afraid to put it in.

Sandwich Lake

25/08 2007

Float fishing is always productive as well as ledgering. Scale your hook length right down and concentrate on as finer presentation as you dare to fool the bigger fish. Sandwich remains very constant as we enter into the winter months with very good bags being put together on a daily basis… Favorite baits at present are corn, pellet, worm and caster. Particles such as hemp always work well so bear that in mind.

There are no more matches mid week or weekends now until 9th September.

Kettles Lake

25/08 2007

Kettles has again been fishing well and continues to produce lots of those hard fighting Carp that so many of you enjoy. Alex Martin caught a huge Perch weighing in at 4lb using a cube of luncheon meat on a size 10 hook and 5lb line. Lucy Angus had a whopping 2lb Roach and a 10lb Mirror. Ross Angus also had 10lb Mirror, and Graham Smith a lovely 18lb Mirror.

The method remains the firm favorite as far as tactics go but don’t overlook the humble float fished worm or maggot, especially in the margins. This can be a real winner. Particle continues to produce, remember to keep topping up your swim throughout the session. Little and often is the way to go. Try scaling down your presentation some times it’s the smallest changes that can make good day’s fishing into a great day’s fishing.
