Archived Lake Reports for February 2008
North Lake Adult only*
14/02 2008
Well done to Keith Finch who got off to a great start to the year with his 8 fish session from 18lb to 31lb 2oz. I keep being asked what the best bait is and I wish I had the answer! My only advice is anything fruit-based is doing well, keep one eye on the water, lose the size 6 hooks and change them to a 8 or 10. It’s the little thing you change that makes the difference.
Pre-booking North Lake sessions is essential
North Lake is incredibly popular, so pre-booking sessions is absolutely essential. 1–2 weeks’ notice is required for a weekday session and 4–6 weeks’ notice is required for a weekend session. Day only sessions may not be pre-booked but it is advisable to ring us the evening before to check availability.
Closure on 8th May for B.C.A.C Competition Preparations
We have a B.C.A.C competition on North Lake on the 9th May to 11th May. We will be closing off North Lake on Thursday 8th May in the morning to prepare for the B.C.A.C.
* Minimum tackle requirements: 40” net, 40” unhooking mat, 2.5lb, T.C. rods and 10lb, line per angler, no sharing allowed. Pre-booking 2–4 weeks in advance for 24 hour plus weekend sessions on North Lake is advisable.
Plantation Lake*
14/02 2008
Plantation is never easy but if you stick with it you will be rewarded. The average sizes are looking really positive with some cracking fish being caught. As with most of our lakes fruit-based boilies are working. If we could categorize this lake we would have to say it’s a semi specimen lake: it has roughly 150 Carp from mid singles up to 30lb. It’s not an easy lake but it’s a great place to make the jump from pleasure fishing to specimen fishing. As with all specimen lakes you have to work for your fish and they give nothing away.
Big congrats to Mr J Donavan he caught 2 Mirrors 25lb and 30lb, the 30lb being the biggest this year, 30lb in Feb makes you wonder how big it will be in August! Mr Stevens also bagged himself a 21lb Mirror.
* Tackle requirements are a 30” net and an un-hooking mat per angler.
Prairie Lake
14/02 2008
Prairie Lake has really been fishing well and continues to produce some cracking fish. As with Plantation, pellet can be a real favorite at this time of year. Maggot and caster always seem to work along with the flavored corns and the new Dynamite Frenzied luncheon meats. We’ve just got the new Dynamite fresh squid octopus & black pepper boilie and this one looks like to be a real winner this year but with this company it always blows the competition away!!
Sandwich Lake
14/02 2008
Float fishing is always productive as well as ledgering. Scale your hook length right down and concentrate on as finer presentation as you dare to fool the bigger fish. This lake really comes into its own at this time of year, lots of Bream, Roach, Rudd and the occasional Tench.
Matches are now being fished so it’s worth a call to check for availability on a Wednesday or Weekends.
Weds club recently had a match during a very wet day, 1st: 49lb, 2nd 36lb, 3rd 33lb. Hawthorn match: 1st 37lb, 2nd 36lb 12oz, 3rd 26lb 8oz.
Kettles Lake
14/02 2008
The “method” is still a firm favorite on Kettles at the moment, float fished maggots or worms are producing some great mixed bags as well as some big carp. Use plenty of freebies and ground bait, little and often to build your swim up and keep the fish in front of you.
Try scaling it down and please don’t forget the float, if you’re not catching on the bottom, try the middle to top levels of the lake.
Pullens Lake Adult only
14/02 2008
Pullens continues to produce quality fish to high twenties and there have been some big bags put together recently. Fruit-based baits certainly seem to have the edge in the colder weather and you should always carry the humble Tutti fruity this one will always be a winner.
Mr Winstanley had a Chag-Hoi at 29lb and Mr Clark caught two Mirror one at 17lb the other 28lb, Ian had four fish the two biggest were 25lb and 26lb.
West End Lake Adult only
14/02 2008
With the water temp still cold and the pressure high it’s been hard going for the most part but still some big fish putting in an appearance. Ian Eveleigh had 2 fish: 29lb 5oz and a cracking 35lb 2oz, Ricky Cichon: 18lb Mirror; Dave Hawthorn: 19lb, 26lb, and 28lb.
We were graced with Martin Locke, Simon Crow and Joe Wright who decided to have their Cricket carp match on West End. After blowing a gale all night and not forgetting the torrential ran they had a few out, Joe Wright had a 24lb 12oz, Simon Crow had a 25lb 8oz and Martin Locke, the man who can do no wrong and quite posslbly walk on water, had the new lake record at 36lb 8oz. So even in worst posslble condition don’t chuck in the towel just rise to the challenge.
