North Lake Adult only*

20/04 2008

With the slight increase in air temperature the carp seem to be more up for the feed. Phil Rushbrook had 2 mirrors to 30lb. Mark Foxwell had a lovely looking mirror at 28lb. 10 thirties have been caught this year so far, don’t be shy lads come into the lodge and tell us of your success. As the weather improves let’s hope the big girls start to show.

The BCAC is almost upon us 9th to 11th of May, feel free to come down and support the local boys.

Plantation Lake*

20/04 2008

Plantation is never easy but if you stick with it you will be rewarded. The average sizes are looking really positive with some cracking fish being caught. If we could categorize this lake we would have to say it’s a semi specimen lake: it has roughly 150 Carp from mid singles up to 30lb. It’s not an easy lake but it’s a great place to make the jump from pleasure fishing to specimen fishing. As with all specimen lakes you have to work for your fish and they give nothing away.

Well done Liam Ward on your 20lb common and yes we enjoyed seeing you and it in ‘Carp Talk’! Rob Jones had three mirrors to 23lb as did Alan Dean, but his went to 25lb 6oz. Alan Webster had a PB mirror of 25lb 12oz, well done. Alan Dean paid us a few visits this month and just kept on catching, great angling sir.

* Tackle requirements are a 30” net and an un-hooking mat per angler.

Prairie Lake

20/04 2008

Prairie Lake has really been fishing well and continues to produce some cracking fish. As with Plantation, pellet can be a real favorite at this time of year. Maggot and caster always seem to work along with the flavored corns and the new Dynamite Frenzied luncheon meats.

We’ve had a report of a nice 22lb mirror coming out but have no name and no photo. Mr Townsend and son had a good session with 45 fish. Don’t be shy we want to hear about all your captures!

Sandwich Lake

20/04 2008

Float fishing is always productive as well as ledgering. Scale your hook length right down and concentrate on as finer presentation as you dare to fool the bigger fish. This lake really comes into its own at this time of year, lots of Bream, Roach, Rudd and the occasional Tench.

Matches are now being fished so it’s worth a call to check for availability on a Wednesday or Weekends.

Some good bags up to 50lb are being had. Well done Joe and Kieran Pallet, Joe aged 8 had bream to 3lb 8oz and Kieran had three tench to 2lb. Well done boys.

Kettles Lake

20/04 2008

The “method” is still a firm favorite on Kettles at the moment, float fished maggots or worms are producing some great mixed bags as well as some big carp. Use plenty of freebies and ground bait, little and often to build your swim up and keep the fish in front of you. Solar Baits’ Top Banana seems to be doing well on here.

Pullens Lake Adult only

20/04 2008

Pullens continues to produce quality fish to high thirties. This month has seen the lake record reach 37lb 8oz, two different fish now hold this title, so well done to Garry Winstanley and Steve Ford. 14 thirties have been out so far this year.

Well done to Jason Ford on his 34lb mirror. Terry Dobson caught his PB with a nice 34lb mirror.
