Archived Lake Reports for January 2008
North Lake Adult only*
20/01 2008
2007 was a great year for big catches. We had fifty 30lb to 37lb Carp, sixteen 40lb to 48lb Carp, seven 40lb to 47lb 12oz Cats, six 50lb to 57lb 8oz Cats, and three 60lb to 68lb 3oz Cats.
Pre-booking North Lake sessions is essential
North Lake is incredibly popular, so pre-booking sessions is absolutely essential. 1–2 weeks’ notice is required for a weekday session and 4–6 weeks’ notice is required for a weekend session. Day only sessions may not be pre-booked but it is advisable to ring us the evening before to check availability.
* Minimum tackle requirements: 40” net, 40” unhooking mat, 2.5lb, T.C. rods and 10lb, line per angler, no sharing allowed. Pre-booking 2–4 weeks in advance for 24 hour plus weekend sessions on North Lake is advisable.
Plantation Lake*
20/01 2008
Plantation is never easy but if you stick with it you will be rewarded. The average sizes are looking really positive with some cracking fish being caught. Don’t forget leaves have fallen off the trees so they will sink to the bottom and cover your baits, so try popping up some corn. Just pop them up an inch or so and that can make all the difference.
Well done to Louis Pannel on his fantastic 25lb Mirror.
* Tackle requirements are a 30” net and an un-hooking mat per angler.
Prairie Lake
20/01 2008
Prairie Lake has really been fishing well and continues to produce some cracking fish. As with Plantation, pellet can be a real favorite at this time of year. Maggot and caster always seem to work along with the flavored corns and the new Dynamite Frenzied luncheon meats.
Now’s your chance to float fish a lob worm in the margin for one of our specimen Perch.
Sandwich Lake
20/01 2008
Float fishing is always productive as well as ledgering. Scale your hook length right down and concentrate on as fine a presentation as you dare to fool the bigger fish. This lake really comes into its own at this time of year: lots of Bream, Roach, Rudd and the occasional Tench.
Congratulations to young Joe Pallet on catching a 3lb bream. I think he’s hooked for life now!
Matches are now being fished so it’s worth a call to check for availability on a Wednesday or Weekends.
Kettles Lake
20/01 2008
The “method” is still a firm favorite on Kettles at the moment, float fished maggots or worms are producing some great mixed bags as well as some big carp.
Use plenty of freebies and ground bait, little and often to build your swim up and keep the fish in front of you. Try scaling it down and please don’t forget the float, if you’re not catching on the bottom try the middle to top levels of the lake.
Pullens Lake Adult only
20/01 2008
Pullens continues to produce quality fish to high twenties and there have been some big bags put together recently. Fruit-based baits certainly seem to have the edge in the colder weather and you should always carry the humble Tutti Fruity as this one will always be a winner.
Ray Mullen fished a very cold night at the end of December and pulled out a cracking 28lb Mirror, Don’t forget all the time you’ve got bait out, you’ve got a chance of a big fish, never give up because it’s too cold. Last year we had thirty one 30lb to 36lb 10oz Carp! Let’s do better this year... are you up for the challenge?!
West End Lake Adult only
20/01 2008
Same old, same old, West End is still doing very well even in the colder days. There are still plenty of good sized Carp being caught. Try scaling down the rigs to a size 10 hook, and popping your baits up, at this time of year there will always be lots of debris on the bottom of the lake. Try using pva bags or stringers and don’t spod out.
