Archived Lake Reports for March 2006

North Lake adult only non-members*

12/03 2006

Congratulations to Dan Brown on his stunning North Lake record-breaking 56lb 8oz catfish, caught on Saturday 18th March.

If you don’t know the lake, use a marker float to find the features, it is essential for success on North Lake. Ensure that you take the time to match your terminal presentation to the features you find.

Well done to Paul Mason on his superb 36lb 12oz Mirror, this is his second 30lb plus fish from North Lake this year. Plenty of 20lb plus fish being banked at present and as the weather improves so will the sport.

* Minimum tackle requirements: 40” net, 40” unhooking mat, 2.5lb T.C rods and 10lb line per angler, no sharing allowed. Pre-booking 2–3 weeks in advance for 24 hour plus weekend sessions on North Lake is advisable.

Plantation Lake*

12/03 2006

Plantation continues to produce some lovely fish with carp to 27lb this week, it’s still not easy but a little bit of effort goes a long way. Presentation is the key to success on Plantation Lake. Make sure your bait is presented to match the feature you are fishing to. Again single baits with small amounts of freebies are the way to go at present. Maize over pellet is a good combination.

* Minimum tackle requirements are a 30” net and an un-hooking mat per angler.

Prairie Lake

12/03 2006

The carp are really starting to wake up now the milder weather is upon us with some very nice fish to mid-twenties being caught recently. Lots of high singles and doubles as well. Don’t over-feed your swim, little and often is the way to go. Scale down your terminal tackle as much as you dare, small hooks and baits on a light presentation will give you the edge. Bites can be very delicate so it pays to watch your rod tip or shot your float down as far as possible, if either so much as twitch, hit them!

Dynamite’s new hookable pellet range is proving to be a real winner fished over small beds of matched pellet. It’s the right time of year for one of Prairie’s famous “monster” Perch if you fancy your chances, Float fished worm is your best bet for a big Stripey.

Sandwich Lake

12/03 2006

Sandwich really has been fishing consistently throughout the colder weather with some great bags of silver fish being recorded. Pole or float and feeder are the way to go with as light a set up as you dare go. Small hooks, light hook-link and well presented baits make all the difference. Pellet is a favorite at the moment.

Kettles Lake

12/03 2006

As with Prairie Lake, Kettles can be hard work when the water temperature is down, so scale down your tackle and concentrate on bait presentation. Just about every kind of bait works in Kettles but the favorites have to be, meat, pellet, corn and worm.

Pullens Lake members only

12/03 2006

Well done to new member Richard Brewer for his stunning 32lb 8oz Mirror caught on Saturday 25th March.

Two 27lb fish have been recorded this week with plenty of 20lb fish to back them up. Tactics remain the same as always, lump the bait in there to get the fish feeding. As with the other lakes the going is pretty tough at the moment but plenty of fish are still being caught. We have now finished our re-stocking program and a further ten 30lb-plus fish have been added, with fish to 37lb being stocked in both lakes.
