Archived Lake Reports for March 2007

North Lake Adult only*

25/03 2007

As predicted the cats have started to show, Ben Johnson caught a lovely 38lb 7oz cat and Rob Morris fished maggot for a 46lb 12oz Cat. Sport has slowed up a little with the colder water temperatures but there are some really great catches being put together Phil Bashford caught 8 mirror to 27lb, Colin Copeland 26lb 6oz, Leon Newnham 32lb 4oz, Mike Wootton 31lb 8oz, and the first forty of the year went to Jody Derbyshire: a pristine 41lb mirror! We know from our records that the same fish was caught on January 9th 2006 weighing in at 36lb.

It’s vital to pay particular attention to your presentation and consider scaling down your baits as the water temperature continues to drop.

Plantation Lake*

25/03 2007

Plantation is never easy but Some cracking fish have been banked in recent days, Matthew Streeter who caught two 15lb mirrors, Tommy Eastwood caught 2 commons 19lb 6oz, 18lb 4oz, Gary Merrett caught one common 19lb 2oz, so perseverance does pay.

Pellet is a real winter favorite, especially when fished in conjunction with a pva bag of smaller pellet near the hook-bait, try adding a CSL glug for that extra attraction. Corn always works on Plantation but if you want to try something different, get hold of some of our fluorescent pink ‘mega’ corn, it’s a real winter winner as the Tutti flavor dissipates well in cold water. Tip from the top Dynamite new fresh fish mussel and oyster seems to be a winner.

Prairie Lake

25/03 2007

Prairie Lake has really been fishing well and continues to produce some cracking fish, Jason Ballard had a great day he caught two mirrors and two commons biggest on the day was 18lb 10oz and 16lb 8oz.

As with Plantation, pellet can be a real favorite at this time of year. Maggot and caster always seem to work along with the flavored corns and luncheon meats. The monster Perch are back in evidence so sling a float fished lob worm into the margins and you never know… The key to this lake at the moment seems to be using plenty of bait don’t be afraid to put it in.

Sandwich Lake

25/03 2007

The match fishing is doing amazingly at the moment with some huge bags, 18th Feb Hackbridge 1st 48lb, 2nd 40lb, 4th March Tightlines 1st 54lb, 2nd 42lb, 7th March Wednesday club 1st 59lb, 2nd 54lb, 18th March Tightlines 1st 63lb, 2nd 23lb.

Float fishing is always productive as well as ledgering. Scale your hook length right down and concentrate on as finer presentation as you dare to fool the bigger fish. Sandwich remains very constant as we enter into the winter months with very good bags being put together on a daily basis… Favorite baits at present are corn, pellet, worm and caster. Particles such as hemp always work well so bear that in mind.

Remember that matches run at this time of year so it’s worth phoning before a Wednesday or Sunday session session to check availability.

Kettles Lake

25/03 2007

Kettles, has, again been fishing well and continues to produce lots of those hard fighting Ghost Carp that so many of you enjoy. Well done to Lucy Angus who caught a beautiful 17lb mirror.

The method remains the firm favorite as far as tactics go but don’t overlook the humble float fished worm or maggot, especially in the margins. This can be a real winner. Particle continues to produce, remember to keep topping up your swim throughout the session. Little and often is the way to go. Try scaling down your presentation as in the colder weather the fish are not as hungry or as active as they are in the summer.

West End Lake Adult only

25/03 2007

Westend is really producing loads of big fish Ron Hunter fished Boilie for a 31lb 6oz Mirror not a bad session. Lee Alwright caught beautiful 25lb 12oz mirror.

Even in the colder days it can pay to spod loads of particle, remember to keep topping up your swim throughout the session. Pellet is also worth a try and can really do the business, especially when fished in conjunction with a pva bag of smaller pellet near the hook-bait but add some fruity glug just to give it an extra edge.
