North Lake adult only non-members*
14/05 2006
The totals are now 32 Carp over 30lb to 38lb 7oz and 9 catfish over 40lb to 56lb 8oz this year. Well done to Paul Sellery who recorded a personal best fish of 32lb recently. As always with North Lake, the most important rod is the marker, find the features and you will find the fish.
This year saw North Lake host the BCAC eliminator for the second time and what a competition it was! Mark Bartlett and Mark Pitchers took an early lead and managed to bank an incredible 438 lb of fish. In the end this was only good enough to get them 3rd spot. Martin Locke and Danny Smith put in a sterling performance and banked a whopping 526 lb of fish, it went down to the wire in the end that got them second spot after leading for half the competition but...
Father and Son team Andy and Tom Maker stole the show in the last few minutes on Sunday Morning with 530 lb of fish taking 1st place by only 4lb 4oz ! Tom is only 14 years old and banked fish of 30lb 11oz and 38lb 7oz, Watch this one he is a star of the future. Good Luck to both first and second place who both qualify for the finals. A big thank you to all those who helped make the competition what it was, Shoes and the Marshals did sterling work and the competitors were great. In total 274 fish were banked for 2593lb 8oz !!! (That’s over a ton)
07/05 2006
With a further 11 fish over 30lb caught in the last 2 weeks the totals are now 25 Carp over 30lb and 7 catfish over 40lb this year. Well done to Matt Gibbons and Mick Turville who both recorded personal best fish of 37lb this week. The coming weekend (12th-14th) sees North Lake hosting the British Carp Angling Championships again, good luck to all those participating. As always with North Lake, the most important rod is the marker, find the features and you will find the fish.
* Minimum tackle requirements: 40” net, 40” unhooking mat, 2.5lb T.C rods and 10lb line per angler, no sharing allowed. Pre-booking 2–3 weeks in advance for 24 hour plus weekend sessions on North Lake is advisable.
Plantation Lake*
14/05 2006
We can’t stress the point enough, concentrate on your presentation, it doesn’t matter how great your hook bait is if it is poorly offered. Use a marker float to find the features and aid you in which presentation to go for. Corn and maize are still top baits, pellet is also working well.
07/05 2006
As always presentation is the key to success on Plantation Lake. Make sure your bait is presented to match the feature you are fishing to. Maize and corn over pellet and/or groundbait are a firm favorite. Plenty of 20lb plus fish recorded in the last 14 days. Fruit boilies are also worth a try. Cocentrate on your presentation, it doesn’t matter how great your hook bait is if it is poorly offered.
* Minimum tackle requirements are a 30” net and an un-hooking mat per angler.
Prairie Lake
14/05 2006
Prairie is producing some really nice doubles at present. Luncheon meat, sweetcorn, maggot, worm and pellet are all working well. Scale down your presentation to fool the bigger fish—big hooks and big baits don’t mean big fish! They have seen it all before. If you are only catching small fish, try something a bit different. Sweetcorn popped up over a bed of particle can be a real winner. If you want to fish boilie then nibble the baits before casting out, this gives them a more natural presentation in the water and can often mean the difference between success and failure (remember to spit out the bits though!).
07/05 2006
Flavored corn is still working well but try something different, 2 grains of flavored corn on the hook and a single grain of “pop up” artificial corn on a short hair. This can be fished over a bed of corn and/or pellet. Give it a try it can make all the difference.
As mentioned before, the “method” is always a winner, if you are on a budget try using Vitalin dog food but pre-soak the night before in warm water for best results, you can always add flavorings to match your terminal bait.
Sandwich Lake
14/05 2006
Tight Lines club fished a match on Sunday 14th and recorded a staggering 6, 100lb plus bags with the top weight going just over 186lb the smallest bag was 43lb and all thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Matches end at the end of this month and do not start again until September.
As the above match report shows, Sandwich is fishing superbly at present, very good numbers of Tench, Bream, Crucians, Roach and Rudd are being banked. All traditional baits are working well. Maggot and Caster are still the best with Corn running a close third.
07/05 2006
All baits working well with corn, worm, pellet and maggot on top of the list. It is important to build up you swim for consistent results on Sandwich, feed little and often and don’t lump it in. Light hook link and small hooks definitely aid presentation, if using a soft bait try to mask as much of the hook as you can, it seems pretty obvious but many people overlook this simple presentation aid.
Loads of Tench and Bream are coming out at present with good numbers of Roach and Rudd as well. Matches end at the end of this month and do not start again until September.
Kettles Lake
14/05 2006
Kettles really is on form with loads of double figure fish being landed daily. Light tackle and a delicate presentation are proving to be the winning formula on Kettles at the moment. All baits are working well at the moment but Meat, corn and maggots continue to be top of the list. Surface sport has started again so it’s worth having a bag of mixer to hand just in case.
07/05 2006
Elphicks regular Nicki topped an impressive haul with an absolutely stunning 16lb ‘Silver’ Ghost common (see photo gallery), light tackle and a delicate presentation proved to be the winning formula.

Same as Pullens – there have been nine, 30lb plus fish recently with loads of 20lb plus as well. Tactics need to be changed daily to keep up but the fish are really feeding hard so get the bait in and if anything shows whack on at it!!!
