Archived Lake Reports for May 2007

North Lake Adult only*

20/05 2007

North Lake has just had the first BCAC match of the year and what an amazing comp it was, from the start two local guys stole the show, Paul Noakes and Rob Morris led from the word go and within the first couple of hours they had four fish for 90lb and it just got better from then on. Tthey won the match with incredible 555lb 14oz and their biggest fish were 35lb 10oz, 35lb, 32lb .

It was a tight race for second place and went down to the wire in the end Danny Cooper and Rob prince won second place with 310lb 15oz and in third place Nathan Francis and Karl Palmer with 296lb 6oz.

As you can see the North Lake has really come into its own over the last few weeks and with the water temperature rising the bigger fish are really on the move. The key to this lake seems to be spodding out plenty of bait, but don’t worry you won’t over feed them.

Biggest fish in the last 4 weeks were caught by Dan Grimmett: 25lb–27lb 10oz, Carl Grimmett: 31lb 4oz, 29lb 09oz and 22lb 10oz, Paul Meophan: 54lb cat, 32lb cat, Robert Carver: 37lb 4oz Mirror, Darren Brace: 36lb 1oz Mirror and 28lb Common, Mr Bonich: 60lb cat, Mr Dallimore: 25lb grass carp and 27lb Common, and Paul Mears: 28lb 10oz Mirror.

Plantation Lake*

20/05 2007

Plantation is fishing very well with some cracking fish coming out, Graham Stoneham: 25lb 6oz, Kieson Steel: 20lb 4oz, Mickey Hamer: 18lb 7oz, Danny Woodin: 20lb 3oz, Peter Brant: 19lb, Mr Pannel: 11lb 12oz, 13lb, 14lb 8oz, and John Southgate: 18lb.

There really is no preferred method but you can never go far wrong with the Korda maggot clip and maggots in you ground bait. On warm sunny days it’s posslb le to get them feeding on the surface so always have a few dog biscuits in your bags, if the fish are on the surface leave one rod on the bottom and have one on top.

* Tackle requirements are a 30” net and an un-hooking mat per angler.

Prairie Lake

20/05 2007

Prairie Lake has really been fishing well and continues to produce some cracking fish. As with Plantation, pellet can be a real favorite at this time of year. Maggot and caster always seem to work along with the flavored corns and luncheon meats.

The monster Perch are back in evidence. Adrian Parson caught a 4lb 6oz specimen so sling a float-fished lob worm into the margins and you never know! The key to this lake at the moment seems to be using plenty of bait don’t be afraid to put it in.

Sandwich Lake

20/05 2007

The match fishing is doing amazingly at the moment with some huge bags:

09-05-07 Wednesday Club 1st 100lb 2nd 89lb, 3rd 88lb

20-05-07 Lee Green Angling 1st 73lb 2nd 70lb, 3rd 67lb

Float fishing is always productive as well as ledgering. Scale your hook length right down and concentrate on as finer presentation as you dare to fool the bigger fish. Sandwich remains very constant as we enter into the winter months with very good bags being put together on a daily basis… Favorite baits at present are corn, pellet, worm and caster. Particles such as hemp always work well so bear that in mind.

There are no more matches mid week or weekends now until 9th September.

Kettles Lake

20/05 2007

Kettles has again been fishing well and continues to produce lots of those hard fighting Carp that so many of you enjoy. Lucy Angus had a whopping 2lb Roach and a 10lb Mirror. Ross Angus also had 10lb Mirror.

The method remains the firm favorite as far as tactics go but don’t overlook the humble float fished worm or maggot, especially in the margins. This can be a real winner. Particle continues to produce, remember to keep topping up your swim throughout the session. Little and often is the way to go. Try scaling down your presentation sometimes—it’s the smallest changes that can make a good day’s fishing into a great day’s fishing!

Pullens Lake Adult only

20/05 2007

With the spring feed try putting a bit more bait out they have been responding to a bit more in the warmer days. Why not try out tares, maize or lupins they can be really effective at this time of year, especially when used in conjunction with glugged particle. The humble Tutti Fruity can also be a real winner.

Well done to Rob Prince. On a day session he caught: 25lb 12 Common, 20lb 8oz mirror, and a 19lb 08oz Mirror. Scott Shepherd: 31lb 8oz, 28lb, 26lb all Mirrors. David Moleny: 31lb 12oz Mirror, 25lb 7oz Mirror. Andy Wilson: 24lb, 24lb, 25lb, 30lb 10oz, 30lb 6oz all in 24Hrs.

West End Lake Adult only

20/05 2007

Westend seems to be the lake of the moment and is getting very popular as it’s producing loads of big fish! Carol fished two day sessions and caught 27lb 8oz Mirror, 19lb Mirror, 19lb Mirror, and a 18lb Mirror. So it’s been a very successful 4 weeks.

Remember to keep topping up your swim throughout the session, the most successful Boilie at the moment seems to be Nash Scopex Squid and Liver. Pellet is also worth a try and can really do the business, especially when fished in conjunction with a pva bag of smaller pellet near the hook-bait but add some fruity glug just to give it an extra edge.
