Archived Lake Reports for October 2005
North Lake adult only non-members*
18/10 2005
North Lake has now produced 57 Carp over 30lb to 37lb 4oz with 30lb plus captures every week. As we always say, presentation and bait location are the keys to success on North Lake. Find the features and you will find the fish. Pay particular attention to your terminal rigs and ensure that the presentation suits the bait you are fishing. Catfish action is starting to slow down with the cooler weather upon us.
Well done to James Willmore and his mates who between the 4 of them managed to each break their P.B.s and amass the following haul: 3x30lb to 33lb, 19x20lb to 28lb and rakes of doubles, not a bad session at all.
* Minimum tackle requirements: 40” net, 40” unhooking mat, 2.5lb T.C rods and 10lb line per angler, no sharing allowed. Pre-booking 2–3 weeks in advance for 24 hour plus weekend sessions on North Lake is advisable.
Plantation Lake*
18/10 2005
Plantation continues in fine form with lots of big carp being banked. It’s still not easy but if you put the work in you will be rewarded. Concentrate on your bait presentation and don’t expect your rod to scream off in the first 30 seconds! More rumors of another 30lb carp in the last week but we can’t confirm this unfortunately.
Maize on the method is still a top choice, use plenty of free offerings around your hook bait to get the fish feeding.
* Minimum tackle requirements are a 30” net and an un-hooking mat per angler.
Prairie Lake
18/10 2005
Andy Little from the Andy Little from the Angler’s Mail banked a tremendous 11lb Lake Barbel on a recent visit (see October 11th issue of Angler’s Mail for details).
If you fancy your chances for one of these monsters light hook-links and small (size 18 or 20) hooks are the only way to go. Don’t forget to wind your clutch right out or the fight wont last very long! Plenty of carp to 20lb are still being caught on lots of different baits. Not much surface sport now with the cooler weather.
Sandwich Lake
18/10 2005
Although the water level is down on the field bank Sandwich is still fishing very well at present with excellent bags of Bream, Skimmers, Roach, Rudd and Tench being put together. There are still a few big Carp in Sandwich so don’t nod off or you’ll loose your rod!
Best baits are maggot, worm, caster, pellet, paste and corn. Use plenty of ground-bait, little and often to build up your swim. Fish the feeder or float. Matches are now being fished again so it’s worth a call to check availability on a Wednesday or Sunday.
Kettles Lake
18/10 2005
Kettles Lake is still producing plenty of fish to just about every method imaginable with the ‘method’ still a firm favorite. Surface sport is slowing down with the colder weather upon us but float fished maggot and worm are doing the business for the carp and non-carp species. Use plenty of freebies and ground-bait, little and often to build up your swim and keep the fish in front of you.
Pullens Lake members only
18/10 2005
Don’t be shy with the freebies, lump the stuff in there and you will reap the benefits. Most fish are coming from mid water but there have been some big fish showing in the margins.
Predictably Terry Dobson is again hauling with another 40 fish haul this week, Terry proves that if you put the time in you’ll get the results. Terry has now had well over 100 Carp this season from Pullens, well done Terry.
West End Lake members only
18/10 2005
Use plenty of bait to get the results. Dynamite Tiger-nut and Halibut Pellet boilies are still the current favorites. Plenty of 20lb plus fish caught in the last week or so to 28lb. West End shows no sign of slowing down and continues in fine form.
